Friday 6 March

I had a tremendous time last weekend and not just because (having gone out in the last round of the cup) the mighty Motherwell could not lose as they did not have a fixture.  Having finished thoroughly muddy in Hunter’s Bog with the Cross Country Club on Friday I was able to watch both our girls’ (an excellent performance to reach the semi-finals of the ESMS tournament) and boys’ hockey teams playing on Saturday morning.  I thoroughly enjoyed what I saw.

As reported elsewhere in the Newssheet, I also spent Sunday afternoon at Belhaven Bay watching some tremendous individual and team performances.  There were lots of highlights but the performance of our boys’ teams in winning each of their categories and of Axle Kitchin (Under 9) and Munro Lawrie (Under 13) winning and breaking course records on a very windy day were certainly noteworthy. Monday also saw teams playing hockey and swimming.  A very active few days for over 100 children!

As I write I am actually sitting at the annual Edinburgh Schools' Primary Choir Competition, having enjoyed listening to rehearsals over recent weeks.  This competition is a highlight for many of our P6s and even now I recall taking part in the same competition (in black and white of course) when I was at Junior School.  I am sure that my teachers were excellent educators and set me on an educational path but I do not remember the individual Maths, English or Science lessons.  It is memories of events such as the Choir Competition that linger in the mists of time.

And finally, as I know the Rector will also mention, we have been talking and educating the Junior School children about the Coronavirus and their personal responsibility to wash and dry hands thoroughly amongst other things.  This is not to scare the children but to ensure a proportionate response in view of the outbreak.  At all times we are taking advice from public health bodies.

Kind regards
