Junior School Scots Culture

Every January, to coincide with Burns Night, all our Junior School pupils celebrate Scottish language and culture by learning traditional songs and poetry including, for our older children, songs and poems written by Robert Burns himself. Every child in Primary 1–6 is given the opportunity to perform and finalists are chosen to perform in front of the whole School as part of our Scots Culture Competition. A guest judge is invited to adjudicate on singing, poetry recitation, handwriting and art. It is a very special morning which also includes all children and staff singing some great Scottish songs which have become firm favourites over the years!

Online learning didn’t stop us celebrating this year. Our P6 children enjoyed a Virtual Burns Supper and a huge number of children submitted entries for poetry recitation, singing, handwriting and art. Each entry was awarded a point for the Division (House) Competition and our pupils are always enthusiastic about supporting their team! We hope this video gives a flavour of some of the wonderful efforts made by our children during lockdown. We are very proud of them all.
