More than a student community
Parent involvement is key to maintaining a strong community at the Academy. Whether it be by following your child’s progress through Firefly, our virtual learning environment, supporting a team at one of the many sporting events or shouting a hearty ‘bravo’ at a drama or musical performance. As an EA parent, you will spend a lot of time with us and we do everything we can to provide an open and supportive structure to encourage your participation.
EA Parents’ Association
The Edinburgh Academy Parents Association (EAPA) acts as a focal point for current parents. It aims to channel the energy, skills and enthusiasm of the parent body to the benefit of the School and also to assist in welcoming new members into the Academy family. The EAPA also raises funds for the School and the Schools’ nominated charities.
The EAPA organises a number of social events. These include the biannual and hugely popular EA Ball, an annual Spring Social event such as a Quiz Night and also ‘The Big Picnic’ – held in conjunction with ‘The Games’ (Senior School Sports Day) This celebrates the end of the School year with a fund raising fair including stalls, games and a barbecue.
One very useful function of the EAPA is the system of parent representatives (Reps), the aim being that each class in both the Junior and Senior Schools has a Class Rep. These Reps provide a central point for the parents in their class or year group and they are encouraged to arrange at least one social event at the beginning of the year for parents of pupils in their class, and assist in events arranged by the EAPA committee. There is a meeting of Reps with the Rector and Headteacher, plus other members of the senior management team each term, usually on the first Monday of term. This is an ideal forum for sharing information, suggestions and comments between the School and parents. All meetings are noted in the School Calendar and News Sheet and Minutes are posted on the website.
All parents are encouraged to become involved in the EAPA, whether as a Class Rep or on the Committee or in helping out at events. Should you be interested in getting involved with the Parents Association please get in touch with one of the current chairs:
