Tony Cook

President of the Edinburgh Academical Club

Length of Service: Since 2020

I spent my formative youth being educated at Edinburgh Academy. At present, I am President of The Edinburgh Academical Club, which keeps me busy helping to organise reunions, business events and keeping in contact with as many Academicals as possible. I trained as a biologist at Aberdeen University and then spent 3 years in research at Edinburgh University. I taught Biology at Edinburgh Academy, becoming Head of Biology, along with running the CCF and helping with a variety of sports, particularly Athletics and SCUBA diving. I have four children, all educated at EA at some point and now have ten grandchildren, 3 of whom are presently at EA. Since retiring, I have been on the Animal Welfare and Ethics Review Board for Edinburgh University and also been on the board of Care and Repair, which is part of Age UK.
