Craig was appointed Sheriff Principal of Glasgow and Strathkelvin with effect from 1 May 2011. Born in Edinburgh in 1961, he was educated at the Royal High Preparatory School and George Watson’s College. He is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen. In 1986, he was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates and served as an Advocate Depute from 1994 until 1997. He was a resident Sheriff at Glasgow from 1999 onwards, until taking up office as Sheriff Principal. In 2014, Craig became the first Vice-President of the Sheriff Appeal Court. He retired from his position in Glasgow towards the end of 2016. Since then, he has continued to sit in a judicial capacity both as a Temporary Judge in the High Court and as an Appeal Sheriff. Craig has also served as a Commissioner of the Northern Lighthouse Board. He is an occasional speaker at Burns Suppers. His interests include golf, chess, walking and music. Both his sons were educated at the Edinburgh Academy and Craig’s late wife, Liz, taught the recorder to many pupils at the Junior School and Henderson Row.
