Transition Year (Geits/Primary 7)

A Seamless and Supportive Move to Senior School Life

Stuart buchanan lowresAt The Edinburgh Academy, we understand that the transition from Junior to Senior School is a significant milestone. That’s why we have designed our unique Geits Year (Primary 7) experience to ensure this move is seamless, supported, and confidence-building.

Our Geits pupils are taught at the Senior School in a dedicated and self-contained Geits Base, allowing them to acclimatise gradually to Senior School life while remaining part of a familiar, nurturing environment. Rather than feeling like “Big Fish in a Small Pond” suddenly becoming “Minnows in a New River,” our pupils experience a continuity of care and culture.

Geits continue to enjoy the comfort of a home classroom for core subjects, while being mentored by 7ths (S6) pupils and taught by specialist teachers across the curriculum. They are introduced to exciting new subjects like Latin, Mandarin, and Design Technology, expanding their academic horizons.

Located in a separate area with its own supervised playground, the Geits Base is a space where pupils are known as individuals and supported by a dedicated team of teachers and staff. Here, they grow in confidence, develop resilience, and build the independence needed to succeed in the Senior School and beyond.
