Beyond the Classroom

Building Character, Confidence, and a Global Outlook

At The Edinburgh Academy, academic excellence and successful university entry are expected outcomes. But what truly sets us apart is the richness of student life and the transformative co-curricular experiences that shape our pupils into confident, capable, and compassionate individuals—Grounded in Scotland, Ready for the World.

Our co-curricular programme offers an exceptional range of opportunities designed actively to develop – and to reflect on the development of – character, leadership, teamwork and global awareness. In short, for our young people to flourish, here and once they have left. These opportunities include:

  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) – encouraging adventure, service, and personal growth
  • Sport – with diverse teams and competitions across multiple disciplines
  • Creative Arts – in theatre (including LAMDA), orchestra, media production, and more
  • Travel & Language Enrichment – immersive trips that broaden cultural and linguistic horizons
  • Student-Led Groups & Societies – such as Eco Club, Ease Group, Minority Union, Charities Committee, and EA News

From stage to sports field, mountain to debating floor, our pupils are encouraged to explore, lead, and thrive. These life-enhancing experiences outside the classroom cultivate confidence, independence, and purpose—essential qualities for success in school and beyond.
