Learning & Teaching
Nurturing Curiosity, Character, and Creativity in Every Child
At the very heart of our Learning and Teaching approach lie our school values. Through these, the children develop their skills and talents for life-long learning and embrace the true meanings of Ambition, Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity and Engagement.
We inspire children to strive always to do their best. Rigorous planning and regular, professional conversation among our highly dedicated teaching team help to ensure that the learning experience is truly inspirational, with personalised challenge and support for every child. Our ever-evolving pedagogies and approaches empower children to engage critically, to be curious, and to participate actively in their learning while our collective, professional knowledge and experience ensures that their core learning needs are fully met. Ultimately, learners are prepared, through our broad and far-reaching curricular offering, for the ever-changing world that is their future and which is evolving all around them.
All of the children, from Primary 1 to Primary 6, will take part in weekly Science, Music, French, Art and PE lessons. Games sessions are part of the Primary 4–6 Sports curriculum with specialist coaches joining our teaching team. In PE the children will experience a wide range of sports, from Dance to Badminton, Gymnastics to Pickleball so that they can all discover a sport that they love.
Our classically trained Music teachers inspire the children, through their own musicianship and talents, to sing with passion, enthusiasm and with heart – the sound of which resonates around the school during our Departmental and Whole-school assemblies. Rhythmic, instrumental and composition work all feature in the twice weekly Music lessons in which every child takes part, and our choirs raise the roof during school concerts.
Creativity flourishes in our Art room under the watchful eye of our Art teachers, who plan and prepare lessons that inspire imagination and originality. Art History is brought to life with every brushstroke and pencil mark and the school’s walls are adorned with vibrant and individual interpretations of each weekly theme.
Our Modern Foreign Languages teacher offers a seamless programme of learning in French from Primary 1 through to Primary 6. Weekly lessons introduce the children to the spoken language as well as customs and traditions in France.
The Science Room is a hub of critical thinking, ambitious collaboration and active participation. From the creation of houses that light up to bridge building and volcanic eruptions or exploring chemical reactions, every child’s passion for all things STEM is ignited and their flexibility of thought is encouraged.
Technology is skilfully woven into learning throughout the Junior School and, from Primary 5, the introduction of 1:1 iPads through carefully managed devices, further enhances the creative and collaborative learning that takes place in the final years of Junior School.

We place great value on Adventure and Character Education.
We explicitly teach about character virtues and values in School Assemblies or in Health and Wellbeing lessons. This supports our children to develop resilience and practical wisdom and ultimately to grow into young adults who can be relied upon to make informed choices that demonstrate integrity and compassion. These important lessons are very often the focus of learning outside the classroom too, whether that is in planned Outdoor Learning or Sustainability Sessions or at Residential Camps which happen annually from Primary 4.

Our pupils are encouraged to make a difference and play an active role in bringing about positive change to their school, their learning environment and the wider community. Children can become Pupil Voice Representatives, Junior Librarians, Playground Buddies, members of the Sustainability Group or Chicken Committee or may even run Enterprise projects such as the Stationery or Farm Shops.
Children are also actively involved in charity ventures, proposing causes they would like to support and actively organising collections. In the past few years, we have collected food items and winter coats and have donated hundreds of Christmas gifts to a local school-based food bank, have raised thousands of pounds for charities such as Maggie’s and Bethany Christian Trust’s ‘Buy a Bed’ campaign, and have even sponsored our own Guide Dog Puppy.
