200 Munro Climb

Bicentennial 200 Munro Climb in 2024

28 June - 11 August 2024

Thermometer 69As The Edinburgh Academy approaches its 200th anniversary, we are excited to share the specifics of our bicentennial 200 Munro Climb with you all. Following the success of the 150 Munros climbed to mark the 150th Anniversary in 1974, we are looking forward to going that little step further in 2024.

Thank you to those who previously contacted us noting your interest. Please note that we need you to re-confirm your details and preferences to ensure we have up to date and accurate information.

Help us achieve our goal and join us for a climb from 28 June – 11 August 2024!

To allow for weather, holidays, availability, and to ensure that as many people can join us in this adventure as possible, we’ve widened the window to enable us to reach the summits. The climb of the 200 Munros will take place from the close of our 199th Exhibition on 28th June, through to the 11 August 2024. Are you able to bag a Munro within this time frame?

The event will be a combination of school-led pupil teams, in addition to your own organised Munro climb, or virtual/remote climbs, and we need your help to ensure we reach a total of 200 summits.  The event is open to everyone and we look forward to a fun filled weekend, sharing in the spirit of our adventure. The organising committee consists of James Fontana, Campbell McAulay, Roddy Millar, Colin Dinwoodie and Samantha Byers – Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

Some of you may know James, an outstanding Accie who climbed a Munro in his final year at school, accompanied by Jen Isherwood and more than 30 of his classmates. It was a huge achievement for James, who has Cerebral Palsy, and a testament to his desire to face physical challenges head-on and inspire others in similar situations. Following his postgraduate study, James now works full time as an HR professional and is keen to take part in another climb and has started training already!

Please sign-up and complete the form to confirm which Munro(s) you will be able to climb. We will then update the ‘List of Munros to be climbed’ form for ease of understanding the outstanding summits. If you have any problems doing so, please contact Samantha Byers: accies@edinburghacademy.org.uk Once we receive your forms, we will keep in contact with you and connect those who wish to join a team with a relevant group.

As we will all be dispersed across Scotland, and globally, over this weekend the celebratory get together is planned for Friday 30 August where we hope you can join us for dinner, drinks and regale us with your stories and pictures! For those who are joining the climb in spirit if not in body, we will ensure that the pictures are shared with you!
