Edinburgh Academy Nursery - personally tailored teaching

Discovering the Joy of Learning

Both full and part time nursery units cater for children aged three to five, as we like to have the children mixing with others a little older and a little younger.

Here at the Edinburgh Academy, we provide a warm, caring environment where boys and girls can grow and develop in a secure, stable and friendly environment. We aim to help each child to discover the true joy of learning and guide each individual gently along the path that prepares them for life.

Working through play

The carefully structured nursery environment leads to much stimulation and the skills of the trained staff are such that the children are learning without even realising it! Often what is seen to happen in a nursery is described as “just play” but to our young children this is their work.

Here at The Edinburgh Academy, we provide experiences, situations and adventures that help to develop an enthusiastic and inquiring young person. This is the beginning of The Academy's celebrated "personally tailored teaching." The natural ability of the young child must be nurtured, encouraged and satisfied to enable strong foundations to be laid for all future learning in life.

Extending the range of experience

Development of the personality

Of course, we realise that the education of our nursery children does not start and finish at the nursery door!

We constantly extend and develop the varied experiences of each nursery child and encourage their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

Nursery education

At The Edinburgh Academy we acknowledge the vital importance of nursery education. Within this department of the school, we develop and broaden the experiences our young children encounter, and guide them towards being confident, enthusiastic and inquiring young people.

Graduates of The Edinburgh Academy Nursery are ready to move along the path that prepares them for life.

The Nursery Curriculum

The curriculum that we follow covers the five key areas of learning for three to five year olds:

• Emotional, personal and social development
• Communication and language
• Knowledge and understanding of the world
• Expressive and aesthetic development
• Physical development and movement

Through play, the Nursery children explore their developing world and discover the joy of learning.
