Rectorial appointment

30 October 2007

Dear Parent,

The Directors of The Edinburgh Academy are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Marco Longmore, currently Senior Deputy Head of Alleyn’s School, Dulwich in London, as Rector with effect from the Autumn Term of 2008.

A graduate in History from the University of Edinburgh, Mr Longmore taught History and Modern Studies at George Heriot’s School before moving to George Watson’s College as Head of History and Modern Studies. Having completed the Scottish Qualification for Headship, he took up his current position in 2005.

Mr Longmore, aged 38, is an enthusiastic sportsman with a keen interest in theatre and public debates. He and his wife, Karen, have two children, Chiara and Luca aged nine and six. Alongside his official duties Mr Longmore is looking forward to meeting and getting to know all the parents of the School at the many extra-curricular events of School life.

He will be working closely with John Light during the rest of the academic year to ensure that the transition proceeds smoothly, before arriving in Edinburgh in August next year.

It gives me great pleasure that my first communication with you as Chairman of the Academy’s Court of Directors is to advise you of Mr Longmore’s appointment, which comes at an exciting time for the Academy. The move to co-education is well advanced and we are confident that the School will continue to prosper and develop under his leadership.

Yours sincerely,

Chairman
