Rectorial selection process

18 September 2007

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

As a follow-up to my letter last term, I thought it would be useful to update you on the process we are following for the recruitment of John Light's successor. We are employing Odgers, the most experienced company in the education recruitment field and who have an impressive track record of Head Teacher resourcing.  The feedback from our consultants is that the quality of the candidates is very strong and among the best they have seen for the last two years. Their expectation is that this will translate into the Academy securing a very good candidate. They also felt that the Academy is a very attractive school and carries a great reputation.

The members of the Court who are involved in the work, and who all have experience of recruitment at a senior level, are:

Mike Gregson, Chairman of the Policy & Planning Committee and a former parent at the school. Mike is leading the process for the Court.  Supporting him are:

Arthur Zegleman, Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and a parent at the Senior school.

Morag McNeill, a member of the F&GP Committee and a parent at the Junior School

Greg Hunt, a member of the F&GP Committee and a parent at both Senior and Junior School

Following an advertisement and a search process, a number of potential candidates have been identified and interviewed by our recruitment consultants. The candidates are now about to embark on a two-stage series of interviews with members of the selection panel along with Andrew Trotman, a former Deputy Rector of the school and now Warden at St Edward's School, Oxford and who is acting as our educational advisor.

Our current expectation is that we will be able to announce the name of the successful candidate before the end of the current term.

Henry Fairweather
