The Rector of The Edinburgh Academy, John Light, has decided to retire from his position at the end of the summer term, August 2008, as he reaches the age of 60 in April of that year.
Mike Gregson, vice chairman of the Academy’s Court of Directors, will be taking charge of the recruitment process to appoint a new Rector, which will begin immediately.
The Deputy Rector, David Standley, will continue in his position after John Light’s retirement to help ensure a smooth transition for the new Rector in his or her early months at the school.
Chairman of the Court of Directors, Henry Fairweather, paid tribute to John Light’s contribution to the school since he joined as Rector in 1995.
“John has made an enormous contribution to the development of the school and its pupils over the last 12 years, steering the school through exciting times as co-education is introduced throughout the school and we embark on a £5 million investment programme.”
