Summer Term 2008

24 June

Last week was an action packed week, and it was good to see so many of you supporting all the different events which were going on in school. Thanks to your wonderful support, we were able to raise over £3000 for our African Children’s Choir, who gave an inspirational concert on Wednesday evening. I was delighted that we could repay the compliment the following evening by inviting them to Aladdin, our P6 musical. This was a show fit for the West End. It was superb and a fitting finale for our producer, Mr Dickenson, as he leaves for Kelvinside at the end of this week. Well done to all who were involved from lighting crew, to sound engineers, to costume designers, and to our musical director, Mrs Russell. It was a great team effort, just as the magnificent Big Picnic was on Saturday, organised and run by the Parents’ Association.

And to cap it all today, I have just officiated at my first graduation – yes, all our pre-school nursery children graduated from nursery in a lovely ceremony, which was held in the Junior School hall and witnessed by many a proud parent!  Many thanks to all the nursery team for orchestrating the whole event, including the ‘singalong’.

Now all that remains for me to say, is to wish you a very relaxing summer break; we look forward to welcoming you all back at the end of August for the start of another busy session.  Happy holidays!

17 June

Just like all the Primary 1 – 3 boys and girls racing towards the finish line at their Sports Day on Friday, we are all racing towards the end of term and the start of the summer holidays! There is a lot to pack in over these last ten days and I appreciate that many of you will have very full diaries as a result. Thank you, once again, for all your wonderful support for all the different school events which have been happening of late, and for those still to come. The Early Years Sports Day was indeed a great success, held in glorious sunshine and great enjoyment was had by all.

The African Children’s Choir arrive on Tuesday and we hope that they will be able to give a short rendition of their repertoire on Wednesday morning at 8.40am – a last minute ‘plug’ for their concert on Wednesday evening!

One of the highlights of the school calendar is definitely the Primary 6 musical, and we are all very much looking forward to Aladdin, which has been masterfully put together by Mrs Russell and Mr Dickenson, for whom this is his very last show!

If any of you, would like to show your appreciation for all the work Mr Dickenson has done for the Junior School over the past 13 years, we are collecting contributions to his leaving gift in the Junior School office.

10 June

The sun eventually shone for the P3–6 Sports Day, which was held on Thursday. It was wonderful to see all the boys and girls enjoying themselves, win or lose. There were great displays of camaraderie and sportsmanship, particularly on the occasions when there was a ‘photo finish’ and the runner-up was still able to shake the winner’s hand to congratulate him or her. Some records were broken and, of course, the girls managed to set records for the first time!

Nursery Sports, held on Friday, was just as much fun, and I am sure there are a few fine athletes in the making once they have truly mastered the art of running in a straight line. This can be very hard when you are only 2 years old!  Let’s hope that the children in the Early Years have as much fun. I am sure they will.
