Congratulations on an excellent season, boys!
First Team
The first rugby team boys worked hard in training all season and showed a fighting spirit even when behind in games. Led by the strong running and evasive style of Melvin-Farr at centre, the vision of Kinghorn at fly half and the skilful Troup at scrum-half the firsts developed an expansive passing game set to give any opposition a challenge. Murray, Mellis and Ning created space and time to make their pace count on the wing. The forwards dominated by powerful and penetrating runs from Peters, Gilmour and new boy Jack created the platform for numerous waves of intelligent back play. Supported by the strong second row duo of Neill and Bolton the firsts completed an excellent season by making it to this years sevens final. Well done, boys!

2nd Team
The second rugby team, captained by ever reliable scrum half Sam Hooke made fantastic progress this season. The top performer was undoubtedly Alasdair Gillies at inside centre who led by example both in attack and defence and pitched in with a number of tries. Other regulars on the try sheet included stand off Harry Simpson and our two flyers Jack O’Brien and Josh Mateer both of whom made the step up from the 3rd team with distinction. Special mention must also go to our forwards who provided the platform for an increasingly expansive and free flowing running game. In contact David Lian, Arthur Withall, Robbie Brown and the excellent Rufus Lopes were strong and tenacious and were always prepared to get stuck in. In defence, the diminutive Charlie Hunter was the most fearless tackler, ably assisted by Euan Smith and the ever improving Michael Bell and Patrick Christie. The highlights of a successful season included a last minute victory over a strong Stewarts Melville team and some very spirited performances in the Academy Sevens Tournament. Mr Macdonald would like to thank the boys for their hard work and commitment throughout the season.
Other Season Reports
U11 Academy Sevens 2007A wonderful morning’s rugby saw all the teams involved really improve during the competition with Watsons taking on the Academy firsts in the final. Watsons had not conceded a try previously whilst the Academy had to battle against Heriots in the final group match to win through to the final. Some fine individual play including some excellent work with the kick ahead and chase tactic brought the two to an exciting tournament climax. Our boys scored first and put pressure on the visitors to come from behind. This they did with much confidence and in the end Watsons proved too strong utilising an expansive passing game to good effect. Congratulations, everyone! You performed with courage and determination on the day and showed a fighting spirit throughout. Thank you to all who contributed to making the event a real success! 3rd TeamAlthough the results and records of the season make for average reading they don’t reflect the effort and commitment put in by the players who showed some excellent team spirit on and off the pitch. The highlight of the season was a tremendous early 6-0 win over Stewart’s Melville. Unfortunately in other games we struggled to score tries although we were determined and resolute in our defence. Although there are lessons to be learnt for next year, there are many positives to be taken from this season. Harry Dalziel, William Innes and Angus Campbell led from the front and behind the scrum Rowan Milne, Ruairidh Mackay and Jordan Benfield displayed good handling skills and pace. Thank you all for a very enjoyable season. C.W McCloghry U9 St Leonards / New Park Rugby FestivalA squad of 13 P4 boys captained by Kamran Afshar in P5 competed in this annual event in St Andrews. On a bright but windy afternoon the Academy put in some fine performances showing real potential for the future. Some strong and evasive forward runs coupled with good off-loads in the tackle produced hard earned tries. Courage and determination in defence saw some exciting finishes to matches with our boys demonstrating a fighting spirit when under pressure. Results:V Craigclowan lost 2-0,
