Edinburgh Academy Junior School after school - outside the gates

Supervision

Every child must be supervised outside the school gates at all times.

All young children must cross Arboretum and all major roads either in the company of an adult or under the supervision of the crossing officer.

No child may leave the school premises from 8:45 am until the end of the school day.

Entering and Leaving

Parents of Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2 children, who park in front of the school to drop off or pick up their children, should enter the school by the Denham Green entrance and not by the main entrance. This is to prevent congestion in both the Hall and the Reception area of the school.

All children should enter and leave the School Campus at the main gate, using the pavement provided, not the drive. Denham Green pupils should ensure that they also use the crossing on the drive and make their way to and from Denham Green on the footpath.

Early Birds

The school can take no responsibility for pupils who arrive before 8:00 am. Pupils may arrive in school from 8:00am onwards. An Early Birds Club is provided for P1 & P2 in the Denham Green Library and for P3 –6in the School Dining Hall under the supervision of the After School Care Staff.

SAFETY AT SCHOOL GATES

The congestion outside the School gates is very great. Your co-operation in implementing the following measures would be much appreciated as they have been designed to ensure the safety of your child.

Collecting Children

collecting childrenP5 & P6 pupils may be collected from outside the School gates after school. All children are instructed not to remain outside the School gates longer than is absolutely necessary and, in any event, to return into School with the crossing officer at 3:40 pm. At other times, children should be collected from within the School Campus.

All P3 & P4 pupils should be brought to and collected from the Main Door of the School.

All Denham Green children should be brought to and collected from the front door of Denham Green House.

Parents who live locally may choose to allow their child to make their own way home, but must be aware that responsibility for their son’s safety passes to them when he / she leaves the school grounds. Would these parents please give the school written notification of such an intention, so that the after school staff can proceed accordingly.

Parents arriving late to collect their children, either at the end of the school day or after an extra-curricular activity, need not worry about the safety of their children. The After School Procedures will come into play and children will be looked after. Please help us to keep your child safe by teaching him or her what to do at the end of the day under these circumstances.

Car pools

car pool!To assist parents who wish to operate car pool runs we issue a class address list, or can otherwise put parents in touch with others in the same locality.

Please do not try the method on the left!

Parking

yellow linesParents are requested to observe all yellow markings on the road in front of the gates.

Parents should not pull over to their offside to drop a child when travelling north on Arboretum Road. A much safer policy would be to stop on their near side, get out of their car and see their child safely across the road. Normally there is a crossing officer on duty for this purpose.

It would be appreciated if parents would refrain from parking in or across driveways, double-parking and making ‘U’ turns in Arboretum Road.

Parents of Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2 children are the only parents, who are allowed vehicular accessto the school between the hours specified on the parking permit. Parking permits will be issued to those parents, who request them at the beginning of each academic session and they must be displayed at all times on the vehicle.

School buses

school busesWe are working very hard to promote Safer Routes to School, which is a nationally recognised initiative. We look for your support with this. In conjunction with St George’s, we currently run bus services to both Edinburgh Academy and St Georges from Eskbank, Winchburgh, Musselburgh, Trinity and Southside. More details about this bus service can be found from our website or from the Junior School Office. Currently we have buses travelling to Edinburgh Academy from Eskbank, Winchburgh, Musselburgh, the Southside and Colinton. All buses also drop off at St Georges School for Girls. If you wish to find out more details about the bus service, enquiries should be made to the School Receptionist at the Junior School Office. The services are run jointly with St George’s under the Safer Routes to School initiative.
