Modern Buildings
The Edinburgh Academy Junior School was founded in the nineteenth
century, but now has its own campus in the leafy northern suburbs of
Edinburgh, right next to the world famous Royal Botanic Gardens. It is about fifteen minutes' walk from the Senior School Campus in Henderson Row, whilst the Academy's New Field sports facility is just across the road.
Originally constructed in the 1960's, the Junior school facilities have seen major extension in the shape of a purpose built nursery and after-school club building (2008), a sports hall (1998) and a P6 block with computing and music facilities (2005).
Academy Sports has a sports hall suitable for a number of different types of activities, an exclusive gymnasium with the latest exercise machinery, together with squash and tennis courts, a weights room and a dance studio. Rain or shine, pupils can be engaged in sport within minutes of leaving the classroom.

Spacious Grounds
The fine buildings tell only half the story of the Edinburgh Academy Junior School campus. One of the greatest assets of the Academy Junior School is the wonderful open campus of several acres. The playing fields, trees and feeling of space all attract the attention of the first time visitor. In 2007 we added to the facilities with the provision of an outdoor classroom where the children can learn practical skills.
We are developing a wildlife garden as part of our eco-school project. There are extensive play areas including an adventure playground. We added an all-weather playing surface in the Junior School, which not only gave the pupils an excellent (and clean) playground, but also allowed us to enhance the sports and games provision for both boys and girls.
And of course our playing fields are contained within the campus itself. If ever there was a school combining the advantages of the city with
the spaciousness of the countryside, surely The Edinburgh Academy
Junior School is the one. |
