AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES from 3.20 p.m.

When classes end at 3.20pm, that is by no means the end of the day at the Junior School. Some would say life begins at 3.30pm when a host of activities start. There are sports based activities run by the staff at the Academy Sports Centre. The list is long; fencing, football, hockey, basketball, tennis, squash, thunderball, and many, many more.
The staff at the Junior School run hobby-based activities. In addition to teachers running chess, school magazine, origami, cycling proficiency, cookery to name but a few, Ronnie Paxton, the janitor, runs a very popular woodcraft club. Many an Edinburgh garden has been graced by a birdhouse made at his club.

The activities run every school day from 3.30 –4.30pm. There is a mix of free and paid activities each day.

After School Programmes by age group

After School for the 3-6 year olds

care packages

For the 3-6 year olds, there are two rooms. One is large and roomy, cosily laid out with many exciting things: train tracks, castles, house corner, cars and garages and lots of jigsaws games, puzzles and the ever popular art area. A new addition to this room is our electronic bike. This is designed for 3 – 6 year olds. It plugs into the television set and then they can cycle through different routes and challenges ensuring a bit of exercise even if it is pouring with rain outside. They should sleep well at night after this!

There is also a small lounge where the P2 children can escape to play mini snooker, Lego or just sit back with the “Beano” or “Dandy” for some quiet reading when they have had enough of the “wee ones”!

After School Homework Room

homework room

Separate from these rooms and away from the noise, is our homework study.

It is equipped with reference books and computers linked to the school network allowing the children to log on as they would in the classroom and access any work they have stored and, most importantly, research safely online.

Outside

after school activities

Our outside play areas are extensive as we have access to the nursery gardens, the adventure playground and part of the playing fields. Weather permitting, we make full use of these areas and on wet days the children don’t get a moment to be bored. As well as excellent play equipment, our team of competent and, most importantly, friendly and approachable staff guarantee your child has a happy time, no matter how long or short their visit.
