The Senior Campus - Main Yard

On the left is a panoramic display of those Edinburgh Academy senior school buildings that are visible from the main yard, accessed from Henderson Row.

The main building, with Grecian portico, dates from the school's foundation in 1824. It retains the original assembly hall, but behind the imposing facade has been extensively remodelled. It now houses the hub of the school's computer network.

The Maxwell Science Centre to the right of the main hall was completed in 2006 at a cost of over £4 million. It contains state of the art facilities for teaching all three sciences under one roof.

Finding your way around the Senior School

campus plan

Main Yard

The senior campus comprises two adjacent but originally separate schools.

Most senior teaching is accommodated in the original building in the main yard, or subsequent buildings around that yard (left).

The school office is on the north side of the Lodge (bottom right of the plan.) The Mackenzie Room, used for meetings between staff and parents, is entered by the same door as the office.

The new James Clerk Maxwell Centre occupies the north east corner of the campus.

Donaldson's

Donaldson's

Left is the former Donaldson's School, situated within large gardens both to the front and rear. This building contains the Rector's office, the reception room, and teaching accommodation for art, geography and English. Access from Donaldson's to the main school is via the music school at the top of the picture, or by way of the passage through the classroom block on the right side of the garden.

parkingAt Henderson Row, visitors' parking is outside the School Office, where you will also find the Deputy Rector's office and the Mackenzie Room which is used for meetings between parents and staff.

Visitors to the Rector may alternatively park outside Donaldson's.
