gymnasium block
The gymnasium (left) occupies the first floor of the classically designed building at the north east of the Upper School site. The building was constructed as a memorial to Academicals who fell in the First World War. On the ground floor are changing rooms.
The main uses of the gymnasium are for timetabled physical education lessons at the senior school, and for indoor games such as basketball and five a side football. In good weather the PE department also make use of the main school yard for rounders, touch rugby etc.
Out of school hours the gymnasium, is available for hire through Edinburgh Academy Enterprises. There is of course extensive parking in the school yards.
DT workshops
in the basement are two well equipped design technology workshops. Because the gymnasium block is built on a hill, the workshops, facing the rear of the building, are at ground level and well lit. They are large and equipped with advanced machinery for a variety of manufacturing processes.
Other Facilities

In addition to the gymnasium Henderson Row also has a weights room, squash and fives courts and an indoor rifle range.
The Design Technology Department at the Edinburgh Academy provides pupils with a wide experience in materials, design and engineering. In addition to their two well equipped workshops, DT students have a classroom with computer facilities for the increasingly important CAD (computer assisted design) techniques.
