Edinburgh Academy Parents & Friends Association
Support for ParentsThe Edinburgh Academy Association of Parents and Friends acts as a focal point for the Academy community, and was set up with the intention of facilitating communication between and among the school, the parents, and the pupils; of fund-raising for the school; and of channelling generally the energy and enthusiasm of the parent body to the benefit of the school. Social EventsA number of social events for parents are organised by the committee each year, and in the summer term the Big Picnic, held on the same day as the Senior School Sports, celebrates the end of the school year with a fund-raising fair with stalls, games, entertainers and a barbecue. Funds raised by the Association in the past have been used towards completion of the Wildlife Garden and upgrade of Primary 1 and Primary 2 playground in the Junior School and the creation of a quiet area in the library at senior school. Funds have also gone towards the ongoing Landscaping Project for both Junior and Senior Schools. |

Class RepresentativesIn recent years a parents’ representative system has been set up, with each class having a rep. The duties of the reps are to try to arrange at least one social evening for the parents of pupils in their class, and to assist in some of the events arranged by the committee. The committee also aims to arrange a meeting between the parents’ representatives, the Rector and the Head of the Junior School each term so that issues of concern can be raised and discussed openly. There are a few classes without a rep (see list below) so if you wish to become one you should contact the current chairperson, Clare Graham. Blingo Night Returns! The Parents Association is delighted to announce the return of the very successful and popular Bingo Night which last year was organised by the Nursery Parents. Those parents have kindly agreed to help out again to organise the event which will be held on Saturday 27th March at 7.30pm in the Senior School Dining Hall. We are looking for 20 hosts/hostesses to find tables of 10 guests. The cost per guest is £10 and includes a glass of fizz, nibbles, and one book of bingo games. Each table will bring their own picnic of food and drink for the evening. As well as prizes for the games themselves there will also be a fantastic raffle for star prizes. All proceeds from the evening will go to the EA Foundation Annual Giving Appeal for Bursaries to support more children through their education at our school. Dress code is Bling! |
Big Christmas 2009 ResultsI can announce that the Big Christmas Fair made a profit of £3,500. In addition we were able to donate £404 to the new pyjamas campaign, part of the Sick Kids Foundation, from the entrance donations. The Guess the Weight of the cake for Francesca Dawson's Children in Need collection raised £65. Thank you to everyone for their contributions. The next meeting of the Class Reps will be held on Monday January 11th 2010. Items for the agenda should be forwarded to your class rep by the end of this term.
