Support for Parents

The Edinburgh Academy Association of Parents and Friends acts as a focal point for the Academy community, and was set up with the intention of facilitating communication between and among the school, the parents, and the pupils; of fund-raising for the school; and of channelling generally the energy and enthusiasm of the parent body to the benefit of the school.

Social Events

A number of social events for parents are organised by the committee each year, and in the summer term the Big Picnic, held on the same day as the Senior School Sports, celebrates the end of the school year with a fund-raising fair with stalls, games, entertainers and a barbecue. Funds raised by the Association in the past have been used towards completion of the Wildlife Garden and upgrade of Primary 1 and Primary 2 playground in the Junior School and the creation of a quiet area in the library at senior school. Funds have also gone towards the ongoing Landscaping Project for both Junior and Senior Schools.

Class Representatives

In recent years a parents’ representative system has been set up, with each class having a rep. The duties of the reps are to try to arrange at least one social evening for the parents of pupils in their class, and to assist in some of the events arranged by the committee. The committee also aims to arrange a meeting between the parents’ representatives, the Rector and the Head of the Junior School each term so that issues of concern can be raised and discussed openly.

There are a few classes without a rep (see list below) so if you wish to become one you should contact the current chairperson, Clare Graham.
