Personally Tailored Teaching
Edinburgh Academy Parents & Friends Association
Support for ParentsThe Edinburgh Academy Association of Parents and Friends acts as a focal point for the Academy community, and was set up with the intention of facilitating communication between and among the school, the parents, and the pupils; of fund-raising for the school; and of channelling generally the energy and enthusiasm of the parent body to the benefit of the school. The committee aims to arrange a meeting between the parents’ representatives, the Rector and the Head of the Junior School each term so that issues of concern can be raised and discussed openly. Social EventsA number of social events for parents are organised by the committee each year, and in the summer term the Big Picnic, held on the same day as the Senior School Sports, celebrates the end of the school year with a fund-raising fair with stalls, games, entertainers and a barbecue. Funds raised by the Association in the past have been used towards completion of the Wildlife Garden and upgrade of Primary 1 and Primary 2 playground in the Junior School and the creation of a quiet area in the library at senior school. Funds have also gone towards the ongoing Landscaping Project for both Junior and Senior Schools. |
Become a member of EAPFA CommitteeIf there are any parents who would like to become more involved with the Parents Association, we are looking for more volunteers to join the Committee. We are particularly keen on parents of Junior School children to join as we have too few of you on the Committee. The Committee meets several times per term as well as attending the termly Parent Representative Meetings and it is hoped new members can offer time and energy on top of this to support the Association. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Clare. You do not have to be a Parent Rep to join in. Parent Representatives 2010-2011The duties of the reps are to try to arrange at least one social evening for the parents of pupils in their class, and to assist in some of the events arranged by the committee. If you wish to continue as Parent Representative for your child's class or wish to become the representative, please contact Gill Peters before the AGM to be held on 20th September. I would like to thank all reps for all their help over the past academic year in keeping parents informed with social and fundraising efforts of the EAPFA and for attending our Rep meetings once per term. |

The Big Picnic 2010 |
Uniform Exchange |
||
Thankfully the dark clouds that threatened to spoil the fun never came to anything and everyone was able to enjoy a dry and successful Big Picnic and Senior Sports last Saturday. The total amount raised was just under £5000 which is fantastic. There are numerous people to thank for their contribution to this event and I apologise now if I miss anyone out! Thanks to all the parents and friends who helped on all the stalls, barbecue and gameswithout their time and support the Picnic would not be able to function. I must make special mention of Max and Josie Inwood who are "retiring" from bike exchange this year after MANY years of doing this - well done! For everyone who donated items for the stalls, thank you, especially the filled jam jars and home baking. Thanks to Ralph Lutton and Brodies for the generous donation of all coffee for our stall. For the 6ths who helped with erecting marquees and for other odd jobs in setting up and for the patience and skill of those who painted faces at the event - thank you. A HUGE thank you to Ronnie Paxton and Laurence at the Junior School for their help in setting up, storing donations and taking down the event. Well done to the EAPFA Committee for all their efforts especially in the weeks before the event - you will be glad it is summer and can have a well earned break; Gill Peters, Liesa Christie, Lesley Morrow, Jenny Bennison, Rosie Haining, Lizzie Gardiner, Christine Seydak and Tannis Dodd. Thanks too to an up and coming graphic designer, Mary Graham, for her design for the Picnic poster. I must not forget the Brass ensemble led by Bruce Davis who entertained us so well during the Picnic. Also Lothian Fire Service for coming along to show the kids their fire engine (and back between emergencies!) who give their time for no financial reward. Finally to all our visitors who gave so generously by supporting the stalls as well as the athletes, thank you and have a great summer. |
Parents run a uniform exchange for the sale of good quality second-hand school uniforms. The exchange contributes towards a fund that is used to purchase extra items of eqipment throughout the school. Suggestions for its allocation are welcome. Can you spare a few hours per term to help run the Uniform Exchange? We are hoping to enlist more parents to help run this facility. Many parents benefit greatly from the Uniform Exchange and the more people involved the better! Look forward to hearing from you! If you can help please contact Sally Hood: ****** Special ******
