The next generation of artists
At the Edinburgh Academy we nurture young talent. Every year The Edinburgh Academy is delighted to offer two school art scholarships to help children achieve their highest potential.
The first school art scholarship is for a candidate leaving primary school.
The second school art scholarship is for sixth form entry (16 years +).
Edinburgh Academy school art scholarships are designed to reward excellence by enabling pupils to attend The Edinburgh Academy who would not otherwise be able to do so.
Art scholarship outline
In appropriate cases up to 100% of tuition fees may be covered by the school art scholarships. In addition to a basic school art scholarship of up to 25% of the tuition fees, additional bursaries are available where parental means would otherwise be insufficient to meet the balance of the fees.
The Academy will do everything in its power to help art scholars to develop their talents and achieve high levels of success. Art tuition at The Academy is of a very high standard. Over the years a great many Academy pupils have gone on to professional success. The famous colourist "Bunty" Cadell was a nineteenth century pupil. Craigie Aitchison, Denis Peploe, Donald Watson and Gordon Bryce are artists who earned distinction in the twentieth century, whilst recent leavers include Gordon Anderson and Jamie Primrose. Duncan Pettigrew School Art Scholarship
applicants aged 10 to 13
Candidates for school art scholarships are expected to show excellence in art. By excellence we mean surpassing what is expected of your age group.
The Duncan Pettigrew Art Scholarship is offered to a boy or girl in the final year at primary school. This school art scholarship honours Duncan Pettigrew, a pupil of exceptional artistic ability who sadly died of leukaemia at the age of only 19. Candidates for school art scholarships will sit the same papers as academic scholarship candidates in addition to demonstrating their abilities in their chosen field.
The Duncan Pettigrew Art Scholarship is awarded to pupils of a high standard in art at primary school, who want to develop their skills in an artistic environment that will really bring out the very best in their ability. As with the senior school art scholarship, selection for the Duncan Pettigrew Art Scholarship will involve a drawing test and interview, with examples of work done by the pupil (a portfolio) to be brought with them to the interview. The examination and interview for the Duncan Pettigrew Art Scholarship take place in February each year. |
Mark Cheverton School Art Scholarships
sixth form
At this level applicants for school art scholarships may be specialised in a single discipline. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their abilities. Candidates for school art scholarships should bring their portfolio.
The Mark Cheverton Art Scholarship is open to candidates for entry to the Sixth Form (Senior 5). Cheverton Art Scholarships are named after a late, inspirational head of art, who set high standards and earned the department a reputation for excellence in art and design. He and his wife went on to be founders of the Leith School of Art before their untimely death. This school art scholarship is awarded to pupils who have reached a high standard at GCSE or Standard Grade Art and who really want to stretch their abilities in art to a higher level through working in a strong artistic environment with exceptional standards and inspirational teaching. Cheverton Art Scholarship candidates will also sit entrance papers in two subjects at the time of the Sixth Form Scholarship Examination. Cheverton Art Scholarship candidates will have an interview and will be expected to bring a portfolio of recent work. The examination and interview for this school art scholarship take place in February each year. |
