Maxwell Centre Lab

Completed work:

James Clerk Maxwell Centre

At a cost of £4.3 million The Edinburgh Academy constructed a new science centre, the James Clerk Maxwell Centre (left). It is a state of the art facility for science education.

It was designed to harmonise with the surrounding listed school buildings whilst yet housing the finest modern educational devices. The James Clerk Maxwell Centre brings all three sciences: biology, chemistry and physics, together under one roof. It comprises 9 laboratories, with associated preparation areas. There is a 172 seat lecture theatre, available to let outside school time by outside organisations, in line with the school's continuing policy of community access.

Though now very much in use, admired and a facility to be proud of, we urge supporters still to buy a virtual share or name a seat in the auditorium, the Roll of Donors still has a few spaces left!

Other Projects

adventure playground

Since its launch in October 1998 the Foundation has raised funds for the Edinburgh Academy to allow the school to carry out larger development projects than could be budgeted for just through annual income, beginning with the "safe surface" adventure play area at Denham Green.

Bursaries

Also a proportion of general donations received is passed to the school to invest in its Bursary & Scholarship fund thereby increasing the funds available to help deserving and needy young people attend The Academy.
